Freshly Baked Bliss: How to Make Buns with Our Juicy Sandwich Mix
There is nothing quite like the smell of fresh bread wafting through the kitchen. While our Juicy Sandwich Gluten-Free Baking Mix is famous for its perfect loaf, we have a little secret: it makes absolutely incredible dinner rolls and breakfast buns too!
If you’re craving that golden crust and soft, airy middle, here is how you can transform our mix into your new favorite gluten-free buns.
1. The Preparation
The beauty of this process is its simplicity. You will follow the standard preparation steps found on the back of your baking mix packaging.
We’ve already integrated the proofing process (including the yeast and a touch of sugar to activate it) to ensure your dough gets that perfect rise. For a more detailed breakdown of the science behind the bake, check out our Extended Baking Instructions.
2. Shaping Your Buns
Once your dough has finished its initial proofing and is looking fluffy, it’s time to get hands-on:
-
Divide the dough: Split the dough into equal-sized portions. Depending on how large you like your rolls, you should get between 8 to 12 buns.
-
Resting: Once shaped, let the buns rest for a few minutes on the baking sheet. This allows the dough to relax and rise slightly again before hitting the heat.
-
The Professional Touch: For that bakery-style look, use a sharp knife to make a straight or crossed slit on the top of each bun. Aim for a depth of about 0.4 inches (approx. 1cm).
3. Into the Oven
Bake the buns according to the temperature settings on the package instructions. However, keep these two golden rules in mind:
-
Watch the Clock: Every oven is a bit different! Start checking your buns a few minutes before the timer goes off to ensure they don't over-brown.
-
The Wooden Stick Test: To be 100% sure they are done, insert a wooden skewer or toothpick into the center of a bun. If it comes out clean, you’re good to go! If any wet dough sticks to it, pop them back in for another 5 minutes.
Enjoy!
Once they are out, let them cool slightly (if you can resist the temptation) and enjoy them with butter, jam, or as the base for a killer gluten-free slider.
