Bake a piece of home: Brot & Crust German Farmer's Bread Baking Mix! This gluten-free and vegan bread mix from Germany delivers a loaf with an unmistakably crispy crust and a light, fluffy interior. With a mild and slightly nutty flavour, it's the perfect everyday bread.

Tip: Ideal for a hearty German "Brotzeit" (snack/meal)! Tastes excellent with strong sliced cheese, vegan meatloaf (Leberkäse), or with homemade Bavarian cheese spread (Obatzda).

Easy Baking instructions

(1) Place baking tray or dish with 27oz (800ml) of water on the lowest rack of the oven and preheat to 425°F (220°C) upper & lower heat.

(2) Line a second baking tray with baking paper.

(3) Mix the entire baking mix with 22.3oz (660ml) of lukewarm water. Then, shape it into a ball with a smooth surface using your hands. We recommend kneading the dough by hand for up to two minutes until it has a smooth consistency and feels good in your hands. For best results, let the dough rest for 30–60 minutes before proceeding.

(4) Place the bread on the second tray and make a cross-shaped incision on top.

(5) Bake the bread on the middle rack for 90min. Shortly before the end of the baking time, test if the bread is done by inserting a long wooden skewer into the center. If no dough sticks to the skewer, the bread is ready. If dough still sticks to it, bake for another five minutes and then test again.

(6) After baking, let the bread cool on a rack. When opening the oven, be cautious of escaping hot steam. Carefully remove the water dish once it has cooled down slightly.

(7) Optionally, add 0.5oz (15g) yeast & 0.5oz (15g) sugar to the dough under (3) to create an even tastier bread.
